SYDNEY FISH MARKET PUBLIC BUILDING: FISH MARKET Inspired by the circular structures found in marine life, the Fish Market aims to enhance people’s experience of water and the site itself. The building is divided by the harbour into linear segments to engage with the surrounding aquatic environment. The precast concrete canopy shelters the spaces below from weather conditions whilst intentionally reducing the use of walls to maximise water views. Structural variation in heights and the subtle play with scale of the canopy raises part of the public square to a higher level, allowing observation above the water whilst establishing pedestrian connections to other parts of the site. The public domain serves as a fish market during business hours in which the crossover of fisherman trade is witnessed by customers. The rooftop provides a leafy haven for swimming, dining and relaxation. Night transforms the market zones into fine dining restaurants and bars overlooking the water.
